Only problem with caustic is that it will eat aluminium, not an issue for this process though

...and flesh (ask me how I know)

Does work as an electrolyte, but I prefer washing soda I must confess - I keep both on hand though as I use both for other purposes.

I would guess that the charger is trying to be clever.

You were right dwardo. It was the charger.



I've now connected an unused car battery to the charger, then connected the jumper lead to the tin snips and horse shoe in the solution.

This is now working really well.
