I've just had a couple of hot drinks made from them, I took a fair handfull and gently crushed them to open them a little then added them to about half a litre of cold water broughtr it to the boil for about 5 mins then mashed it all up and then strained it of to drink, I thought the first one was pretty good so I made myself another and added a measure of scotch to make a hot toddy thats done wonders for my cold.
I ate a few raw the other day and it doesn't seem to have had any unwanted side effects.........
