I have got some rope and dtuff for my basha now :D

I cut the 3mm*50ft rope (15.24m) to roughly 3.80m lengths for the 4 lines to hold out the basha

and I am wondering what length I should cut the 7mm*50ft length rope to for the ridge line, as it is pretty damn huge, surely I don't need all that length, how much do I need of it for a basha. I can use the rest for practicing knots then and for general use if needed ever.

Thanks

My ridge line came in the same length, and I cut it in halve. It does the job - and I've got a spare / second ridgeline if there's ever a need for it.

There's no rule for how long your ridge line needs to be ;)
Where will you go most of your outings? Are the trees big or small diameter? Close or far apart? Etc.

Well I was thinking about seeing how long my hammock can stretch and to make it maybe 2 metres more on either edge so about 6-7 metres?

It can take a surprising amount to go around trees, depending on how you tie on some people go round twice, so if you do cut it just long enough make sure you have some spare with you too.

My ridge line is just less than 8 meters with a 2.5 meter tarp; you will need a longer line if you have a larger tarp.
I have found mine to be a bit on the short side if I have had to use a large diameter tree & will probably go for 10m next time.

Just my two pennth but you will be better cutting it to the length of your basha and splicing two eyes (Use a lazy mans splice and some heat shrink ) then cutting the rope ito 10ft lengths treating each to a whipping / heat shrink then on site simply joining lengths to make a custom line , any spares can then be used on camp projects :)
