Ive kept fancy rats and they grow huge.
they eat pretty much what you do, so rearing them for the table would be cheap.
Id be bothered by the bones though. (rabbits are bad enough)

Catonese people eat everything, and I've seen dried/ smoked rat in a guangzhou market. They eat far worse than that, too. The most sickening thing I seen is rice wine with things soaking in it. Not fruit like in britain, but pig and chicken foetuses. Even the local guys with me had their stomachs turned a little. They had live snakes there ready to fry, which was fascinating for me because I've not been up close to one before. When you get this far from home even the most mundane things for local people can be fascinating.
