Last week I thought I heard a bird call that I am familiar with in London but not at home, no it can't be I thought. Today there it was on the nut feeder. I first saw these natualised in woodlands in North Kent in the late 80s and see big flocks very regularly in London, how far North are they common?

Nice pic. As far as i am aware they are still spreading out from SE England, but I'm not sure how far they have got in terms of breeding populations.

Noisy blighters, and now more common here than magpies. No surprise they are spreading northwards..

That's one theory where they came from.

One of the others is they originally escaped from the film set for "The African Queen"

They are on the General Licence and subject to the provisions of culling any pest species of bird, are perfectly legal to shoot

That must be a blow to the banana growers.

I saw a small flock of them, perhaps twelve to eighteen, in a pear tree about 30km south of Paris in September 2012.
