Is anyone aware of a smith making fixed blades in the style of Chris Reeve's offerings from the late Eighties?
That would be a one-piece hollow handle type, preferably with change from a grand?

@JonathanD would be one person that springs to mind to ask. Stu Mitchell may be another who is more in touch with the scene. @C_Claycomb is another maker who would know if anyone was able to make one for you.

It’s an EdgeMatters question I reckon. I know of nobody actually producing them, but you might be able to find a capable maker.

There was a thread.
As it is not a style I like and I have been greatly unimpressed with the functionality of the Reeves knives I have handled, it isn’t something I know much about. I don’t tend to read or look at threads on the subject.
Second recommendation of Edge Matters. You have to register to read.

There is a chap on Blade Forums, Sam Wilson.

Don’t know if Farid Mehr still makes any. He has made some.

For cheap budget to see if you want to run with the idea , Schrade do one SCHF1 ( Or maybe they did produce it and no longer )

SCHF 1

I have one - its in its produced design too long I feel.
Mr Fenna I believe remodelled one down to a shorter length in one of his projects - which brings it more in line with the original Reeves aviator ( which I also owned at one point in time )

The round handle does take some getting used too.

You could contact Ian Bailey (maker's mark IR Bailey). He's very capable of making such a knife (I have one albeit with a sealed hollow handle) though I'm not sure he does custom orders. He makes brilliant stuff, often nostalgic in what the knives reference, so could be worth a shout.

Thanks all. More possibilities there than I'd imagined. I'd really love an original Reeve Aviator, but they're a tad pricey (last offer I had was £1200).

And then like me ,you'd be debating about if you could allow yourself use it fully or not.

Part knife - Part investment.

I'd suggest buying a cheap Schrade and using it fully as it should and scratching that itch.

I'd second this to see if the cylindrical handle makes sense to your hand in use.
I daftly sold one of the Reeves (I forget which variant) a long time ago. It was a fun thing, but back in those days the prices were rather more user friendly.
