Recommend me a vest for Molle pouches.

Since I'm finally losing weight and my waist is shrinking at a pleasing rate I've been considering getting something that previously would have made me look even more ridiculous than even my thick skin could take the comments on , a Molle carrier / vest for bimbling around the woods in.

I've already a certain number of Molle pouches that fit onto various bags and satchels so its just something to carry them on I can cinch snuggly to my body that won't catch on things like a satchel or haversack can and which spreads the weight out evenly.

I'm looking for something plain olive to match the pouches i already have , which has a large adjustment range, and is well made and cheap, in case I find the method doesn't suit me after all. Oh and mesh rather than solid fabric as much as possible as I tend to run hot.

Front runner at the moment is a super grade one Dutch army vest for about 30 to 40 quid. I can't find out if these are sized or one to fit all as some sites say one size and others list small and mediums. Even back down to my fighting weight i'm a little over six foot and with a chest in the high 40s. Weirdly I seam to be growing taller now I'm losing weight and getting more sleep. Its probably purely in my head!

So if anyone can advise me on good alternatives to the Dutch vest , on sizing and anything related It would be much appreciated. Herself just got a copy of Stewart Creeks Pocket Field Guide The Bug Out Survival Vest ( for information on what to carry rather than on vests themselves) Which I'm reading but as ever id rather get info from the BCUK hive mind .

Its looking like it is a Dutch vest for me. They do go up to XL and can be got new overseas for under 30 quid. There's UK sources with new looking vests with sets of used pouches ( not required) for 30 plus postage but the XL ones are DPM not plain olive.

Does anyone have one to sell or swap? I've some excellent trade goods at the moment, everything from Bergans to sharps and Volcano stoves, all sorts really. I'll be putting them up in the sales area as soon as I've the time.

I looked at this option years ago but never found it that satisfactory. What I would recommend is a good jacket with sizeable pockets. The British military smock does well here available in camp or copies in solid colours. Cheers Scoman, I've got a good load carrying jacket, a SASS Kit Carry smock I had them make in cotton modal so it's still going strong after 30 years unlike the gaberdine etc ones wnich tended to wear out quickly. but I find any jacket is too hot spring to autumn which is why I'm looking for a mesh vest to wear over a wicking T shirt or a thin wool or ventile shirt if the midges are after me.

Poking about the net I found that Arktis made the perfect thing but they only make it in black now for the police and there's a extra digit at the start of the price compared to a Dutch issue one.

Used black ex police ones seam to be available for 30 to 35 quid.

Not cheap but so well made and designed. The only mod I made to it was add the wired snorkle part of the hood off a issue DPM parka, which I believe was a option they could have done at the factory.

i picked up a black arktis b310 for about £35 and abused it for a good long while, before the waterproof drop liner failed - so i cut it out and now its a basic canvas type ripstop jacket, i wear it when doing really scruffy things and dont want to ruin my goretex etc. its also a great windblocker
