I have some holiday to take in december and was thinking about wild camping in the lake district.

I am asking for reccomendations as I have only ever been tent camping on organised campsites in the lakes.

Preferable areas would be somewhere out of the way where i could set up a hammock as I think ground dwelling at this time of year might be abit too cold!

Thanks in advance
Mike

Many of the major valleys are quite heavily wooded, and you only have to go off the paths for a couple of hundred metres to find yourself a bit of peace and quiet. Hammocking is definately the way to go, as the woods are often on fellsides. Whilst it's nearly always possible to find somewhere reasonably flat to cook etc, finding somewhere flat enough for a tent can take a bit of doing.

Cheers, Michael.
