Reading Bushcraft Group???

well well well, whats all this then. Ive not checked this thread for a bit and when i do i fined people arguing about a WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!
as it seems that the BCUK (who i pay a subscription to) now own the right to the word MOOT it makes it impossible for me to have a MOOT of my own.

I was told about this over the weekend. I didn't believe it, but it seems that not even BcUK is safe from ridiculous suggestions any more. I will call a meet up amongst friends whatever I wish. If I wish to call it a squidgy session, I will!

Please don't try to ban us from using words from our own language, you'll be suggesting we burn books and inter Jews and undesirables next!

The sad thing is Richie is that the meets/moots whatever you want to call them will no longer be organised on here, which means that people on here who would have wanted to come along will miss out as they wont know when they are. Toddy I appreciate the need for moderators on this site to remove stuff that might offend people - but what harm is Mark doing by calling them 'moots'? It is just a word and not meant to confuse others. The purpose of moderators, as I see it, is to help this site function so that everyone enjoys it, and I am grateful for the work that you do most of the time. But all you have done here is to annoy others, with the the effect that an open, friendly opportunity for others to learn bushcraft has now been removed from this site. How sad.

I think that's a bit rare coming from you Aaron! Seeing as you are the one who caused a fuss when people wanted to come along before! Wasn't that becasue you advertised (or at least declared) the get together on the forum and then moaned when someone wanted to join you.

And what has where she lives got anything to do with it - she's a mod on an internet forum. One of the big points of the internet is there is no geography involved. We have mods based in the US. Are you saying they have no say on what goes on at BCUK or is that just the UK you have an issue with?

Surely BCUK isn’t trying to suggest lmiting the use of the word Moot to BCUK events? The word has origins that extend way beyond BCUK and has been around for some time. Some googling reveals

To quote thefreedictionary, a moot is ‘An ancient English meeting, especially a representative meeting of the freemen of a shire.’

There is no sign of BCUK there

Surely it would make more sense to use Bushmoot going forwards?

Googling Bushmoot takes you to BCUK straight away, googling ‘Moot’ does not. In fact it doesn’t lead you to anything bushcraft related. Using the same word for all official BCUK meets going forwards would make most sense. Indeed the site itself uses ‘Bushmoot’ for its own meet, e.g the Summer Bushmoot 2008, and the link on the pane of the left hand side of the screen says ‘Bushmoot’

Bushmoot seems to be the most useful term for BCUK meets, no one is trying to use that phrase as it’s a proper noun, not a noun. Trying to police the use of a word must surely make life more difficult for you? I’m sure people will not try and use Bushmoot

I think you'll find moot wasn't used on this forum until it was suggested as the name for the main BCUK get together.

Why is this such an issue, all we're asking is to help others on the site use the search facilties that's all.
