Could this cheap and plentiful material be used as a substitute instead of leather?

Having read up and asked a few people, it seems that these can be preserved by nailing to a board, scraping the fat off, covering in salt and scraping off, and then softening in methylated spirit.

Has anyone tried any other methods?

Thanks :)

not tried it yet but have wanted to for some time...

you can brain tan as with normal hide, the skins are very thin though and will tear really easy...

you can also use the washing machine with loads of softener, there was a thread here some place about it...

let us know how you get on mate...
