Qvist - BIG Problems.

Help!

I am beginning to lose hope now.. Here is my situation:

- On the 5th of July I ordered 2 Guyot Stainless Bottles from a company called Qvist. They seemed legit, and I was happy to pay the extra shipping from the continent so I took the dive.
- I emailed to make sure they were in stock and found out they were in fact out of stock and expecting more in "week 30" of this year (July 25th for people who speak normally) - so I waited.
- The last email communication I had with them was 20th of July, and I have probably emailed them 6 or 7 times since then and have had no reply. I have tried replying to the email conversation in gmail which was getting through fine as our initial emails were working. I have also tried using the "contact" feature on their website a few times.
- The money has now been out of my account for over a month (8th of July) and I'm very worried about what to do next. It was a Paypal payment.

Anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone used qvist before? Please offer any advice you can, I would be most grateful.

Cheers, Smith.

I've had nothing than good experiences with them. Prompt delivery and good communications. Drop me a PM with your order info (number) and your name etc. and I'll see what I can do ;)

Well that is reassuring, for sure! My order number is "Order #O-202024" & my name is Sam Smith. Thank you very much Ahjno, I wouldn't know how I could repay you if you actually got through to them for me..! :)

& thanks wolf, I didn't know paypal had such charge back measures I could use, I will at least have that as a last resort option.

I thought Qvist were respectable and reliable too. I hope its a one off. IIRC they used to supply BPL-UK with their bushbuddy type of woodgas stove until BPL-UK stopped selling it. Wonder why they stopped selling it?? I have nearly bought from them on a few occasions but didn't since I resisted buying the nice new shiny stove kit. Not often that happens but has three times from them. Will power has been strong occasionally.

Good luck getting it back or your goods. Sometimes it helps to have someone like Ahjno in the same country to speak to them on your behalf. They are from Netherlands IIRC. Let us know what happens because it might be explained somehow and if it is or isn't a genuine mistake it is worth letting people know on here. Afterall I for one am very wary of online shopping and rely totally on the word of people I know or trust on forums like this. So far I have had no problems. However, Qvist is one site I thought was a good one so please keep us updated on what happens with them.

Sorry to throw in my experience, as it was a bad one.

I ordered a tarp from them. On the site is said I would have it the next day, but it didn`t come. After some very poor email-communication I found out that they would not get the tarps in for some weeks. I needed the thing, so wanted to order somewhere else. Canceling the order and getting money back was problematic. After lot of unanswered emails I tried calling. I got promised that they would fix it the next day, but it didn`t happen. I had to call 3 more times to make it happen, and the last time I wasn`t very polite anymore. It helped though; I finally got my money back.

My experience with them: Poor communication, and not a whole lot of goodwill. I will not be their customer again.

@Smith28: Your story sounds similar to mine. I hope it ends the same and you`ll have your money back. I suppose having a dutchie phone him will speed thing up a bit.

if they didnt have stock till the 30th week of 2011, then that ended on the 31st of july, which is only ten days ago, i have no idea of the time for them to ship it out and it get from the continent to here but maybe its just delayed in the post, maybe the riots have interferred a bit as well, obviously thats no excuse for poor communication, which i tend to find is the easiest way for me to lose faith in a company, but lets hope your goods will turn up soon

Dropped them a line. Let's see how (if) that works out. If not I'll give them a bell ;) I'll keep you posted.

Thank you so much mate, I will be interested to see what their response is, if any.

I will of course keep this thread updated with any news, I'd hate to be giving a good business bad rep, and at the same time would want to spread the word of a business that is maybe best to avoid.

Have ordered a couple of times from them without any real problems.

Only once were things delayed, due to holidays so you can't hold that against them (since it was stated on the website).

Had a problem with paypal as a seller though! Sold a dive watch, guy came along and collected it, paid me with paypal, few hours later he withdrew the payment, guy was nowhere to be found (with my dive watch) and my paypal account was blocked...

I had to go thru all kinds of red tape sh*t to get my reputation sorted and have a try to get the money back! Paypal... not my favorite anymore to make an understatement!

Anyway, no problems with Qvist. Good luck and keep us posted.

In the woods if possible.
I've been in business, although not even remotely in the bushcraft, er, field, for well over a quarter of a century.

Despite the positive comments here about experiences with this firm I feel that part of being a good supplier is communicating with the customer -- especially when things aren't running as smoothly as one might have hoped.

Qvist doesn't seem to be doing that. They also seem to have accepted a payment without explanation when they aren't in a position to fulfill the order, and for me that's enough to avoid them.

This is simply not good enough and there are plenty of firms who do it a lot better.

With no response for more than a month I'd have long ago canceled the order, reclaimed the payment and gone elsewhere.

You can tell the good'uns by their communication. Anyone ever ordered from BPL-UK, ALpkit, Outdoorwarehouse and a few others? You get emails when the order has been accepted, when it has gone to packing, when payment has been received and when it has gone to shipping and then finally dispatched. Well maybe not all those stages for all of those companies but. You do get acknowledgement of receipt of payment, order with packing and/or dispatched. Some doe payment receipt and dispatch others add a few stages in between. Either way these online retailers do a few things that give them good reputations. First is stock levels are indicated (stock is there unless it says sold out), second is payment is only taken IF the goods are in stock and available for sending out and finally they keep you informed automatically at key stages of the purchase. That all leaves very little to go wrong up to the courier stage and if that goes wrong the courier is responsible and the retailer sorts it out. In the rare cases I've heard of these retailers stuff going missing in courier it has usually been sorted with replacements being sent out and they sort out the missing or they chase the missing and it arrives.

Anyway, like Ged says the company might be ok on the whole but if it doesn't communicate then it does look bad and quite possibly is bad. It's the case that a good retailer show their mettle not when it has gone right but when it has gone bad. No matter how rare it goes wrong if they treat you well while sorting the issue out then they are good. Of course if things always go badly then they are total FCUK ups and best give up on them.

Just my view of course.

Couldn't find any reference this time on their site about being away due to holidays.

So ... I gave them a bell: it seems their away, testing gear in Sweden (according to the voicemail) ... If you've sent an e-mail (like we did), they'll reply in the week of 15 August (that's next week). Anyway, we'll wait and see how it ends next week, whether or not they'll reply you and / or me ...
