PLease Help Identify Knife

Very sharp knife. Leading edge is like a chisel and blade is curved (side facing ruler) from use and sharpening. Knotting is to retard splitting of wooden handle. I think the knife must have been used in some trade or profession. Which one?

Maybe a saddlers knife?

Work like that on the handle looks somewhat seadoggish, wonder if its in the sail making trade.

The handle is a pre-made file handle available in any hardware store over here. They were standard issue in a tin bender's (aviation metalsmith's) toolbox in the Air Force. It's simply driven onto the file's tang. Not sure why anyone would want to repair one like that if it were splitting; they're cheap and easy to simply pull off and replace with a new one.

The blade looks home-made, whatever its use. Probably in some sort of craft workshop (saddler has already been suggested)

looks like it was forged from a nail, i used to make similar blades.

Looks like a home made leather workers knife to me.

The shape of the lower edge looks about right to rest your index finger on to help steady and guide the knife whilst cutting out

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'd rather try preventive mainatenance on the handle than replace it. The old handle has character. Tony
