I am going to make a piggy back sheaths for a pair of knives I am working on. I have had a bit of a Google around, but can't find much on them. Anyone with experience, pictures, etc? What would be the best way to secure the two sheaths together and at the same time make them easy to separate and use individually?

Thanks :)

Apart from using a double frog construction I think you are out of luck. All of the ones I have seen both European and Oriental physically share structural componant. They have all been on the 'fancy' side and were intended as presentation items, not intended for rough every day use.

Sorry I cant offer any more posative thoughts, would love to see your solution.

It's a cool idea. I think Dannyboy made some sheaths like this but I don't know if he still posts here.

I have a kydex setup that I carry once in awhile that you can remove the second sheath but it would be a bit of a hassle.

I've never seen a sheath with a small sheath attached that can come apart. I've only seen knives like this where the small knife just sits in a kind of pocket in the bigger sheath. Sounds like a good idea but apart from a strip of velcro, I don't have any ideas.

Contact Spamel and Bernie Garland JoJo. Spamel had a piggy back sheath for his knives from Bernie so I'm sure he'll send you some pics and Bernie will give you some pointers as well

No pictures, but I had a micro canadian sheath attached to a normal bushie sheath by paracord.

Totally secure but easily removed.

Looked nice due to size of micro.

I've seen them in a couple of places. one is a place called "chuddy bear leather" over in the states, who seem to specialise in sheaths for busse group knives, which are not especialy bushcrafty bits of kit.

the other company is bark river knife and tool who make some very nice knives (which I think are semi custom) that can be piggy backed using a couple of screw posts with washers. can't find a picture though :(
