hey just thort id come on and let u know about my buy just got an ex-army phoncho
that with some cord terns into a grait tarp saves on haveing to carry lods of gear did have to rewater proof it thow. only £15

Me too!
Except mine is brand new from strikeforce. £42 or 48 can't remember which but i figured it would be better to get a brand new one and get the full life etc.
£15 is cheap too, any holes?

I have an army poncho myself, and it's very useful because it compacts down very small, and with a bit of para-cord, and some stakes it can easily be made into an emergency shelter. I'm currently in the process of building a BOB 'Bug Out Bag' and the poncho will be incorporated into it.

Also, you might want to have a look at this.

Either way a person looks at it, an army poncho is a VERY useful piece of kit.

any one know the difference between a hootchie and a poncho?
are they both the same size,obviously the poncho has a hood,but at the end of the day can the poncho be used the same way as the hootchie?

Having tried both the American and British Army ponchos i consider the American version to be the best.
It's lighter and packs up smaller but both are very versatile pieces of kit.

I have used mine as rain wear ,a basha , a ground sheet ,a tarp and a shooting hide.

Thanks for supplying pic,i can see now how to rig up the poncho with a hammock,it looks just like the hootchie way,mines an american woodland poncho,i think their bigger than the british issue.

I have an old American army poncho - a la Private Benjamin - really nice bit of kit, though perhaps a little heavy. Really, a poncho/tarp is what everyone needs: a very well-spent 10-15 pounds.

Yep, poles are cheap. Mind you, I could just cannabilize one my Dad's old tents for poles, but he'd probably skin me alive.

But yes, US Army poncho's are excellent. Mine is Canadian (of course) but it's the same as the US one. Light, very compactable, and keeps the rain off.

I put about 10 feet of para-cord into a bundle, it'll be going into my BOB when I get around to finishing it.
