And thats just the bits to hand, Theres a box full of shiny small arms gauges I've picked up. Shiny.

You should have seen the boxed set of .303 Bren gauges I had, unfortunately the lad who gave me them then got a live Bren so I was honour bound to send them back overseas but the rest I've kept and add to when they turn up even though most I'll never get a chance to use being for full auto stuff you can only have over here as de-acs or on a ticket I'll never have. But they are very, very shiny.

Tthe vast majority of the stuff in the pics from carboots or the big army stores at Ripley that has a whole room for tools. Anchor supplies I think it's called.

Oh yes, nice. I've got one but its missing the paper bit and the box isn't so nice.

You'll have to come for a pop one day Tom - I do enjoy putting my L-E kit together and have most things now - just can't track down an armourers foresight adjustment tool at a decent price - I have all the foresight elements and all the rearsight types - it would be nice to have the proper windage adjustment tool
 
There was one of those cased set of measuring tools sold on bargain hunt a few months ago, it was moore nad wright, went for abot £70, full of micrometers, vernier caliper, guages and al sorts.
 
Awww!, that was dirt cheap! Before it changed hands K Tools down in the valley had a wall full of those displays as you walked in. Im a real sucker for old Moore and Wright, Rabone Chesterman etc. measuring tools.
 
All off carboots except the plastic handled Brace that was from a closing down hardware shop.

Red, unfortunately I swapped most of my No. 4 tools to a armorer in NZ, Don't think I have a foresight tool any more, just one for the Sterling. Im afraid the tools go for silly money now mainly due to the US interest. I'd love to finally shoot one of the things thanks, although with my eyesight I'd probably be hopeless! If I ever joined a club, got a ticket etc it would be a civvy SMLE I'd want most. Ive de-ac No 1 MK III* and No 4 Mk II* of course but thy are just ornaments.

How do clean up your Jennings bits Tom as a matter of interest?

Oh and you can shoot my no.4 MkII any time (are you sure yours is a MkII* thought there was only a MkI*?)
 
Oops my typo! Should have been Mk II, it was a Besa Mk II* I had (since sold for double what I got it for! :D)

Not being able to find the auger file I scored I use some good Stubbs needle files to sharpen them after I've restored them. A carefull go on the wire wheel cleans any rust off first, after a soak in hot citic acid solution, avoiding going near the cutting edges of course. The most its ever taken is half a dozen gentle strokes on the bevel and the same on the side cutty things. Its quite easy to over do the side bits and screw them up I discoved! Oops.

shows it well. I run a knife like needle file I have around the screw thread if its hammered. They are usually so cheap you can pick and choose.

Id really like to get some more spoon bits, I've only got a couple of parralel side ones and some more that fit on Yankees.

An easy way to sharpen up the lead screw on auger drills is to start off drilling a hole with just the screw, back it out and put valve grinding paste in the hole, then screw in and out a few times. Surprising how quick and effective it is
