Hi all,
the knives that I designed for FKMD are finally ready, and the first samples arrived here for trials.
The little one is "Parang": blade 6" in N690, thickness 6 mm.
The big one is "Parang XL": blade 10" in 440C, thickness 3 mm.
Just would like share with you a couple pics!
Ciao, Alfredo

I love that XL, it's seems almost perfect in what I look for in a parang. What prices are we looking at for these Alfredo?

I appreciate your comments mates, many thanks.
I'm not the marketing guy just the designer, but according to what FKMD boss said me, Parang XL will be commercialized for 100 euros more or less and Parang for less than 200 euros, always more or less. Need to wait 2-3 weeks for to be sure about it.
Both will be availables for the end of June.
When availables they will be posted on the factory site http://www.fkmdknives.com/fast/k/en/eur/index/mm/default , section Kukri and Machete.
Of course I'm available for more infos about these project you're interested in it!

That XL looks seriously nice, I might have to get one! I'm not sure if I'm being stupid, but is making the XL out of 3mm sensible? The reason I ask is that, setting the weight issue aside, what about twisting moments on the blade?

Thanks,

Dave

Well, a lot of machetes with blade lenght 12" or more are 3 or 3.5 mm in thickness (see http://www.imagometrics.com/GoBags/Machetes.htm i.e.).
The wheigt of Parang XL is 420 grams.
Of course, a thicker blade had a lower twisting moment. You're right.
But my project, due to FKMD requests, was focused to obtain - aside other carhacteristics - a tool with a great cutting power, easy to handle, and not tiring, also after a prolonged time of use. As far as I know actually, the Parang XL will be acquired also from a French platoon operating on tropical areas, where these specs are daily experienced.

Great work Alfredo.
I was thinking about a machete/parang so your message it's really interesting :)
The only problem is that I like both... and someone is watching me... something like this :nono:

If the knives will be made by Fox with the usual craftmanship they will be near perfect.

Btw, do you work for Fox or is this just a collaboration?

Bravo, complimenti gran bel lavoro davvero!
