Para boot repair

After singing the praises of my new para boots (bought in Jan this year), I checked the heel today and they are wearing through the leather inner. Doh. I can't believe they're are wearing through already.

I took the plastic heel insert from my old second hand boots (the white sewn in heel protector you get in the used ones) but they're so old they have cracked!

Anyone have any good ideas?

Cheers, Magentus

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume the lining has worn where the back of the heel rubs & there is now a small hole.through to the rigid protection plate. This unfortunatly is a design fault in the older models( sewn on soles) & now it looks like the newer models are having the same problem. It can't really be avoided as the protective heel cap/plate is too thick & rigid for the leather lining.but the military specifications are very strict. What I do is glue & sew a piece of thin leather from the top of the ankle, down to the footbed.covering the hole. Many second hand boots were already repaired in this way. This too will eventually wear through but I find it comfortable enough.
Since recently discovering SHOE GOO I've made quite a few successful repairs to my boot's soles & heels & next time the heel lining wears through, I may try to fill in the holes with this stuff, I have a hunch it may work.

Sheesh not a good sign. Mine broke through years ago but they're still wearable, was is a drag is that the sole broke away completely on my oldest pair. I've laid my hands on an old car tyre, that doesn't have the wire reinforcing in it. I intend making some new soles with the rubber, just to see if I can. Recently bought some shoo goo as well.

Gret idea filling the hole in the heel and patching it over. I might try that too.

Sorry to read your paraboots are failing so soon. I used to live in mine all the time, comfy boots that's for sure.

Am I the only person who finds that Para boots are far too big in internal volume? My feet may be slightly narrow (Italian motorbike and walking boots normally fit me the best), but I've never had any shoes quite so excessively spacious inside.

I'd like to see the results with the tyre - great idea.

Thanks for your input, both of you. I'll get some shoogoo come pay day, as I've heard good things about it. I am gutted though that they've gone through so quickly. I wear them everyday and not having a car, they've carried me many many miles in the 6 months I've had them, but I would have expected them to be made better. Oh well.
Thanks for the replies again,

I got my SHOE GOO off eBay for £3.99 + postage from this seller http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Shoe-Goo-3-7-..._Skateboarding_Skating_ET&hash=item56447f895a it's good stuff & you can build up your heels & other bits of tread with it, virtually making your soles last forever.

& Biker you can use SHOE GOO for glueing on soles .thinly Spread the gunge on both surfaces, wait until dry, then press together.....note that you have no margin for error, once in contact they are stuck.

I've given up on ebay - I see Amazon has it for £5.09 so I'll get it from there. Cheers for the info.

With good insoles I find they fit very well, I have 3 pairs, my every day pair is half a size smaller than my foot size, they fit fine as long as I don't walk all day in them on hot days. My second pair is half a size larger than my foot size, which I use when my EDP are drying & when carrying a rucksack as they allow my feet to expand, my third pair are of my foot size & these are sno-sealed & kept more or less exclusively for rain & wet conditions. It wasn't a concious choice to have different sizes, it was all I could get at the time.
