Packable Air Rifle

Just to clear things up, I'm taking about something to put away while im travelling around on foot. It might not even be between permissions could just be walking around one big permission.

if you have permissions then no problem travelling between them you have good reason when in a public place (was the while hiking that throws the question ie lands end to J O Groats ;) )

if your on one then you can carry unpacked even on the foot paths as you have permission to be there

the TDR is light and packs small the Verminator is small ish but i dont really consider it a take down rifle and not really light weight both arent cheap the Verminator especially is very pricey and both are limited by the air tank the TDR being a lot smaller so a lot less shots

TDRs are cool and fun and all that, but I think I'd prefer carrying a 'normal' air rifle and putting it in a nice gunslip if it needs to be covered. I still love using springers even though I have a PCP too.

A light gunslip, a couple of extra straps and yer away

Pheonix fastfire packs down very small too

I liked my Verminator but would have preferred the TDR as it can be shot in the broken down mode as a long pistol if needed.

No it can't, you have to attach the stock. Why would you think a UK maker would design a long barrelled pistol at just under 12 ft/lbs? It's illegal.

And if it could, why are you recommending the use of an illegal, overpowered pistol as a vermin controller?

I think some of the old versions could be fired with stock off which isnt actually illegal as air guns have exemptions from length and its made as a rifle so is always a rifle But AA have put it in like anti tamper bolts (Alos not required by law) just to be Whiter than white PC Gov freindly

What would you all say is the common mans hunting rifle? nothing fancy just something reliable that will get the job done?

a basic small ish spring gun i would recommend a BSA XL Tactical as its plastic stock is easy to clean etc and tho not break down is not to big or heavy and tho spring takes a bit more to shoot well you dont need an expensive air cylinder to fill it when empty etc

http://bsaguns.co.uk/air-rifles/spring-guns/XL-Tactical.aspx

or hte Supersport etc if you like the wood

Webley also do a few good basic springers small ish

Wouldn't a bread down air rifle that could be fired without a stock be classed as a pistol?

If so surely the rifle would need to be 6lb/ft not 12?

I think someone said earlier on that if it starts life as a rifle then its always a rifle and the same goes for pistols

Depends how much you want to spend. Webley or BSA are good, so too are the SMK range at the budget end.

If you are new to shooting, go to a good gun shop or shops and try as many as you can. You need to feel comfortable with what ever you choose above all.

You could do worse than joining your local air rifle club and taking advantage of what they can offer you.

I thought the Air Arms TDR had a valve or something that's activated by the stock being attached so that when the stock is removed the power is dropped to sub-6lb/ft ?

It seems I have been mis informed. I was led to belive the pins would regulate the pressure. This doesn't appear to be the case.

I'd recommend the BSA XL Tactical too. Nice light gun easy to transport and nice to shoot. Back to being made in the UK too, and very silent when a second suppressor is added to the integral one.

Funny hey as pretty much all ordinary PCP air guns work fine when you take the stock off ;) as do most springers just AA trying to be PC

I think the point with the TDR is that the barrel is short when the suppressor is removed, has a pistol grip, and would be classed as a pistol if the stock didn't lock it up when removed too. It would have to be 6ft/ib to pass regulation without the lock up.
