Wasn't someone doing a group buy for one these type hats in the...er...'Group Buy' forum? I think they were about 30 quid?
Akubras are pretty expensive over here compared to Australia. They are fur felt (rabbit, actually) and thus superior to the wool felt hats you often see.
Tilleys are cotton, and very good for canoeing as they float. I still prefer the Akubra though.
A cheap option for a very, very high quality felt brimmed hat is to search international ebay for a 'campaign hat' - that is, the flat brimmed, four dented job beloved of old boy scouts, park rangers, mounties, US army drill instructors etc. The ex military ones can be had cheaply even including post. They are made by Stratton or Stetson of fur felt that is even thicker than the Imperial Quality felt of an Akubra.
You can easily bash them into whatever style you want with steam and patience. Or you can keep the mountie look.

I'm on my second Akubra, both bought in Oz over the last 20 odd years, wonderful things, just dont leave them drying on the back of your car 
, bloody things shrink, I have been accused of having a fat head at times but that was pushing it 
FYI I am in the process of making a hat band type survival kit, nothing major, just the basics. I wear the Akubra as standard (when wondering about) so I thought rather than mini kits, or in addition to....shrug I thought it could be useful.
