Hi folks, heres what i got upto today.
I decided to make a Birch bark container, but rather than using Spruce roots for the stitching, i went for cordage this time instead.
So first off i had to make up the cordage, which was Lime(Tilia).
Once made up,it was time to burn off all the fuzzy ends.
Whilst i made up the cord, i had the Birch bark soaking in hot water.
When the bark was ready, i wrapped it round a log and then bound it in place.
Then i went indoors and used a hair dryer to help dry out the bark.
Now i had all the components, it was time to do a bit of sewing.
After the tube was sewn up, i had to carve a bottom plus a lid, and whittle some pegs which secures the base.
And then just put it altogether.
Lid off.
And the one for scale.
So there we go,out in the shed today.
Thanks for looking.
Cheers Stuart.
