45 lb. That's quite hefty, what are you gonna caryy all the rest of your kit with or are you gonna drive to where you want to be? In that case. looks like it'll do the job. Saying that, can you not get hold of a proper open canoe? I reckon you'd have more fun and it looks so stylish! You can also carry a lot of gear in a canoe.

Whatever you choose to do, wear a life jacket, whether you are a decent swimmer or not. Cold water can make you gulp air in, as you probably know, and if you are already submerged........ Don't want to teach you to suck eggs, just want you to stay safe!

thanx spamel ... i tend to bushcraft from the back of a transit... :o
a life jacket is a certainty ... not the strongest of swimmers .. was just thinking of something a little diffrent ... one day i will set my mind to building a canoe  just really fancied the idea of this .. looks fun :lmao:

As a confirmed canoeist all I can say is "Aaaaargh!
Get on with your proposed canoe build for the Queen of watercraft and save your money!"
but then I am biased....

why not just buy an inflatable canoe ,gumotex palava is what im gonna get next at minute have a sevylor amazon but if your not doing white water buy a sevylor tahiti.they are still ok for white water but have no cover.the pontoon will be very slow inflatables arent known for speed anyway.just my opinion but rumour has it that john fenna does know his stuff.maybe shell out on a hard shell.i dont have storage for 1 or id buy maybe an old town pack what canoes does any1 on here recommend.

ive got a merc a class the small one so although it may take a small canoe i dont know if it would take a 16ft canoe also my wife wouldnt turn up to work with a canoe on the roof for a number of reasons. she wouldnt look very professional. someone would steal or vandalise it,and it would really spoil her street cred
