Ontario TAK-1

Does anyone have any experience of these? I find myself tempted by the D2 plain bladed version but have no real idea whether they are any good and worth the investment.

Any thoughts or ideas most gratefully received.

I have a TAK in 1095 now for a few years, its handle has been reprofiled to fit my hand better and the blade semi convexed.The spine is flat ground and throws a shower of sparks and is used as a scraper. It's been used to baton wood for fires and to take down 3 inch saplings for a platform bed.Since a lot of my trips end up in or near water I took of the scales and applied a coat of tung oil to keep it from rusting underneath.

well i love mine, (old 1095 version) it's a great general purpose knife. bigger and burlier than the numbers might suggest. not everybodies cup of tea for a "bushcraft knife" though.

Hi Tiley,

If you're interested I have a TAK-1 (plain edge in D2 steel) that I'd be willing to sell. It's in mint condition, literally never used it and still have it in the original box. It's a fine knife, but, these days I'm focusing on making the move to ultralight hiking and really have little use for such a heavy knife. Blasphemy around here I know...
