ITS A DOUBLE!! i DIDNT KNOW YOU COULD SHARE A HAMMOCK!
Has anyone any experiences of this ? (suitable to recount on a family forum?)

From the old TTTM-website:
"Can I make love in a TTTM hammock?
Certainly! …. and if you’re really lazy, you can rely on two flexible trees to help you do the some of the work! Any suggestions for the forthcoming book entitled ‘Hammocks and the Karma Sutra’ are most welcome!"
:D:D:D:D:D:D

Paul, I can lay on my side very comfy in my Hennessy Hammock. I have a TTTM as well and if you string it up real tight you can lie flat (but boxed in), and if you hang it up in a big loop you can sleep vertically and almost horizontal. (No experience with DD's.)
If you get the "hang" of it you will kiss your tent goodbye!

About the cycling tour: maybe I can check if there's some "wild" campsites on route, PM me if that would help.

Well this is all very good - answered a lot of my ponderings - at our little bushy meet in cambs there was certainly a lot of hamock action but the price put me off.
I love being out and about but really dont sleep well in a tent.
Think i will have a pop at one of the cheap ones too, any good resources on the hows and how nots that are begginer friendly!!?
I hear you need a good thermal layer betwen your but and the air beneath the hammock (any ideas for on a budget)?

:)

Theres loads of informaiton out there - the trick is in deciding what will work for you.
I normally point folk towards Flyfishers site, WWW.Imrisk -

so there are tie up tutorials - http://www.imrisk.com/hammock/improvedknot.htm

Cheap hammock tutorials - http://www.imrisk.com/testhammock/testhammock.htm

And insulation ideas - http://www.imrisk.com/overlappad/overlap.htm, and http://www.imrisk.com/hammock/warmhammock.htm

Plenty of links to follow there too.

Hennessy Hammocks for me, they really do stop achy back syndrome. Plus I love the fact that no flying, biting things will get through the net and you get in through the bottom of the hammock which is inspired.

I was given the opportunity last year to try a hammock over a weekend camp, the first night was a bit scary, but once I learned to relax the second night was good. Decided then to purchase a Hennessy Hammock. I am normally a stomach sleeper, but don't seem to have any problems with sleeping on my back or side in the hammock. All I can say is it's the best night's sleep I've ever had and on all the Scout camps last year I used the hammock. The thought of going to ground again, not good! On occasions when I can't get to sleep at home I even contemplated where I could hang my hammock!

Thanks to SimonM for lending me the hammock (it's his fault I'm now hooked)

I've got two Tenth Wonder Hammocks.

One cost me £25, is standard length and has a built in mosquito net. I don't sleep all that comfortable in it as I am a side sleeper and it's not quite long enough.

My other one is the XL, which is quite a bit longer, has no mozzie net and cost £12.99. And in that one I sleep really well.

Remember to put a sleep pad or similar between the double layering or you will get a cold back in the night.

And make sue that the hammock you buy is double layered - not all are.

I got a hammock recently.
I took so long getting one because, like you, I don't like sleeping on my back.
The I found the 'Tenth Wonder' ones on Ebay for ten quid or so, and I thought, 'what the heck - for a tenner I'll give it a go!'
And it was the best ten quid I've ever spent. YES - you CAN sleep on your side in them! I have.
