Probably in clay in anaerobic conditions.........I do wonder what it's made of though, acidic environments decay woody fibres like flax and hemp, though it preferentially preserves wool.

I know it was only 4000 years old, but wasn't a sting of honeysuckle discovered at sea henge?
 
Yeah,there was some honeysuckle cord found on the seahenge stump,used to drag it into place...BTW,there is a reproduction of it still standing...As for old string,there were numerous examples found in the belonginngs of 'otzi the iceman'.
