need a good warm sleeping bag that can open up as a duvet if needed, pack up small but doesn't cost a fortune, I was thinking of the forces modular system but don't really get on with the mummy system

You can have it cheap, have it warm and have it light - pick any two . And thats even more true with the classic 'camp' style bag - there aren't that many higher level ones around, and many of them will have to be imported.

Temp range you'll be using it in, budget, and which is the most important aspects to you. However, since you want it to pack up small, its not going to be any sort of forces system, and I suspect your looking at a down 'camp' style bag. REI call them 'rectangular bags' https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/sleeping-bag.html , and even they don't do that many, at least not in down https://www.rei.com/c/mens-sleeping...own&origin=web&ir=category:mens-sleeping-bags .

This might be worth a look https://www.simplyhike.co.uk/produc.../308762.aspx?gclid=CLLAi9bA1NMCFQqdGwodlKIDnQ

- decent price for a 3 season bag, and this one isn't that bad http://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/jack...gclid=CK-VvdnA1NMCFYU_GwodascBzw&gclsrc=aw.ds

And if you want to splurge - http://featheredfriends.com/condor-20-nano-sleeping-bag.html - wow! But Feathered Friends have a great reputation.

I recently took a chance and bought two Aegismax Ultralight Lengthened Envelope Down Sleeping bags from AliExpress (China) for £112 total including shipping, having read positive reviews and I'm really pleased.

Positives:
- I can use both in a modular fashion sliding one inside another in winter or just use one by itself in summer. It's kept me really warm in February.
- I'm 6 foot and I've got loads of space.
- They compress to a very small size so that both compressed are 2/3rds size of my old compressed single synthetic bag.
- Two bags cost less than some equivalent single bags.
- They open up into large duvets if needed.
- They come with good compression and storage bags.
- The shipping was incredibly fast (I think around 5 days from China to the UK with no extra costs). I purchased something from Cotswold Outdoors at the same time which took longer to arrive.

Negatives:
- The two bags don't zip together in any way so they move around a little when one is inside the other.
- It's a shame that the material used on the outside is shiny black but that's just my personal preference and a minor issue.

Just a side note - there are a variety of sellers on Amazon, eBay and AliExpress selling these bags and other similar regular sized bags. Their descriptions, delivery times and service seem to vary. The seller I bought from was great but can't vouch for others.
