I have just taken delivery of a Dutch army surplus Lowe Alpine Sting, from Surplus and Outdoors (not to be confused with a similarly named outfit near Worcester) Literally next day delivery.

I have not been uninfluenced about by what I have read on this forum and I have to say I am immediatly pleased with my purchase. It is bigger than I thought, but that is not a problem as I particularly like the way it can be compressed using the various straps. I did not buy the side pockets, nor do I think I will have any need of them, as the pack is well big enough for my needs.

Not sure what to make of the Molle webbing on the front, but I suppose it is possible to attach all manner of stuff securely, more securely than the elastic shock cord you get with most civvy rucksacks anyway.

The straps, waist belt and back system seem appear to be as comfortable as anything you will find in the camping shops. (Time will tell)

It *is* heavy, but not really any more so than my relatively vintage Vango Exodus 65 ltr. and I'd say it is roughly comparable in carrying capacity as the Vango is a bit on the tall and narrow side which limits loading.
