It reminds me of a great idea started in USA which actually promotes the mapping of 'free fruit' sites in local areas. They now actively plant fruit trees in public spaces The site is here:

The Botanical garden in Victoria Park, Bath is a great place for 'free fruit'. Right now from memory you may just catch the Mulberries
