I think there are two conflating arguments or thoughts there.
I'm not sure how you actively manage your diabetes for yourself ( and i'm not saying the advice that is normally provided works for all )

So do we need three meals a day? probably of many of us No. Processed calories are just so cheap now , easy to consume and readily available that its likely we don't - combine that with a majority of jobs being more sedentary than active and there is no reason I can see.
Which I think allows many to try intermittent fasting or more likely restricted window eating - just eating between the hours of say 1pm -6pm - it allows the body to continue its burning of fats and restricts how many carbs or sugars one can put into the body helping with blood sugar levels.

The other thing is portion control - our food is purchased from a supermarket and homemade seems ( if one focuses upon the high quality proteins ) to be becoming more and more expensive. Cheap carb fillers ( Pasta, Bread ,Rice are all inexpensive but rinsed of any decent nutrition )

Juxtapose that to the offerings of fast food - cheap , large , " You want to super max that ? " and becoming more and more available. Even cinema popcorn is now being offered in a bucket.

Eating styles - be that IF ( Intermittent fasting ) or OMAD ( One Meal a Day ) or just reappraising portion control in a downwardly direction can all be useful but as mentioned does depend upon on how one manages their diabetes.

@HillBill - do you exercise? I mean do you have a routine or a structure where you find yourself awake at night and go out for a Tab or run ?

My diabetes management is fine these days. I struggled for the first few years... I got type 1 at 35 years old. A lifetime of bad habits took a while to get rid of.

I only eat once per day. Not through any deliberate ideas, i just dont really get hungry. And i only eat then because Rachael wants feeding. Normally 10pm or afterwards.

My blood sugars are fine throughout the night, but i tend to have a bit of a spike early morning (no matter what time i eat) which is a known thing, that everyone has called the Dawn Phenomenon. (google it) My dietician at the hospital told me this. She is also the reason i drink rum lol. No carbs in spirits, and alcohol lowers blood sugar. Used to drink cider, which is probably the worst thing for a diabetic. So other than a spike early morning, i'm very stable throughout the day. I don't eat too many carbs. I do carb count though, 1 unit of insulin per 10g of dietary carbs. Seems to keep it balanced as needed.

I dont do fast food, i cook all of our meals, so i know what carbs are in them. I also grow decent amount of it.

Do i exercise? A little, I take the dog for a walk 3 times a day. I don't get more active than a brisk walk (though its all up and down hills), but i do just over 4.5 miles combined. Its not the best routine, but at least i'm doing something.. Using an average 30 day month, that's 135 miles. Kinda tame compared to what i used to do, but i'm not overweight. (6'3, 17st)
