Greetings everyone. I'm an occasional cyclo-tourist, interested in ultralight camping gear. I'm thinking of making a tent from DCF/Dyneema. Are there others here who know all about it? Would I need to become a full member to see relevant threads?

Welcome to the forum Nick - and no, you should be able to read all the relevant threads without becoming a full member.

But, it's only £15 and one of the perks is you'll be able to post photos of your exploits straight into your posts :)

Hi!
There are very light tents on the market that did already stand the test of time.
And if you choose something in siliconised Nylon you get in my opinion the far better deal.

Hilleberg was unable to tell me how long their tents last because they only make them since 40 years, none of them degraded yet, and they are storm proof (black and red label).
If you want one you should buy it when it's offered, because they are often sold out.

There are a lot of options to save weight without spending a fortune on weak constructions.

The ultra light trekking community often discuss stuff that doesn't convince me at all. But there are a few very good items available that really save weight and volume without being fragile or uncomfortable.

I own and use regularly such equipment.

My interest is partly curiosity about doing the construction myself, and also in seeing how ridiculously low I can go, in weight terms. I already do this with my bicycle. I'm what's known as a weight weenie. It's not always logical, but it's fun. As for comfort, I would copy the design of my current tent, which I like very much.
