I don't know if any of you have seen this web site, but this guy makes custom made knives to your order. I have to admit to being a little biased, because I've bought one. He uses high carbon steel, and the quality is outstanding, and feels very nice in hand. He gives you a week to respond to your satisfaction, and assumes that if you don't respond within that week that you're satisfied. He will always do right by you though, and takes phone orders or website orders. Check them out at www.idahoknifeworks.com. I bought the Cliff knife hunter, and had them make in a 5 inch model, using old North Carolina Maple for the scales. It's a gorgeous knife, and comes very sharp.

Some nice examples on his site, no doubt about that.

I'm going to stick my head above the parapet though, and be totally honest. Next time I'm in the market for a hand made custom, I'll go with a U.K. based maker. Simply because I'd rather support local industry and hence the money stay in the U.K. in these difficult economic times, and also I can meet, shake the hand and thank the man whose labour made me my knife.

Each to their own though, and obviously that in no way detracts from the very obvious skill of that maker in Idaho.
