This started out as a Chris Reeves - Green Beret clone, i like the look of the Green Beret but i don't like the serrations so i worked up a drawing from online pics and from that I made a 7" plain edge version.
When it was all done i was gutted, i just couldn't believe how heavy and awkward it felt in hand - i have never handled a Green Beret so im not sure how it compared to the real thing but this was just far too heavy.
So i went back to the grinder and started to reduce the blade and quite quickly it started to look a little like Guy Stainthorp's Shadow so i went with that idea and reprofilled the handle as well, it feels so much better than the original blade.
Im not sure how it compares to a Shadow as i was just working from pics but it's is 5mm thick, 280mm OAL and 150mm blade.

Blade is 5mm thick 01, red liners and green micarta stainless bolts and lanyard tube

Size - almost as big as a small girl cat

kydex sheth set up for regular belt carry

the sheath is made to accept small and large tekloks in various positions but i also made some basic belt loops and set it up for horizintal carry across the back.

That's lovely - rugged and beautiful. Can I borrow it for about 8 or 9 years please?

Thats beautiful - but man that handle looks like its going to give you blisters if you had to use it all day! I could however be totally wrong, and as such I will sit back and just admire that beautiful work of art.

I await a users testing thread!

Love the way the handle is sculpted,
RB do you make knives for sale? or even better for trade.
I've got native items for trade maybe?

The sculpting is actually fairly comfortable, it's very grippy even when wet but it's not the sort of knife that you would be carving with all day.

I make leather and kydex sheaths and sell them but the knives i make are just for myself - i don't have enough time to make any to sell.

Looking good mate , how does the handle feel in the hand , i like the look of that type of handle but have never held one

It's a good grip, i had originally just shaped the scales and finished to 600 but with such a big knife they were quite slippy.
I knocked them back with a 180 belt but wasn't happy with the look so i went with the grooves.
I used them once before on a knife and it really only works with a more "tactical" style knife i think.
Guy uses the same finish on his field grade Shadow but Jens Anso was the first i saw doing it - he has a grinder with really small rollers for doing really tight grooves on folders etc. which looks brilliant on two tone micarta.
Stuart Mitchell made me a replacement orange G10 scale for my small Sebenza with it as well and i carry it a lot, it's a great job compared to the basic sebbie scale.

The micarta scale on the large sebbie was one i made and it was supposed to get the same finish as i thought th e two tone would look good but when i had profiled it i liked it as it was so left it alone, i can always groove it later.

Great work mate! Has Guy seen it!? I like the Shadow thing going on,how is the balance now? abit up front for chopping?
As an aside,do you think you could make me a leather sheath for a Guycep nessmuck 3mm stock,4inch blade, field grade. Its wearing kydex at the mo but I would like to complement it with leather.
My best.
Chris.

Dunno, it's over on BB so im sure he will. see it.
I have never handled a Shadow so im not sure how they compare for size and weight, from pics i think this blade is broader but im not sure, it chops quite well - better than i expected so i should see some use.
Drop me a PM re the nessmuk when you get a chance.
