This is the first time that I have come across a thread in these forums where i've come across a hint of "flaming", but everyone here seems to have good intentions. Lets remember that Lodian is only looking for advice. And some good advice has been givven. But maybe this thread is in the wrong place, tracking is not hunting. There is a subforum where there is much more info on hunting rabbits. maybe there's some good info there on weather the slingshot is allowed or not. http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=28

just my 2 cents.

Fair comment but hunting rabbits with a slingshot is a no no humans are much easier prey in my opinion:D

Hi there have started to go out rabbiting and laying snares.
I and a friend go out with a very powerful sling shot could easily take one at 30 yrds.
We also take a dog with us so theres little time of suffering if they do get just injured.
I am asking from some pointers things to look for etc.

Don't shoot unless your positive of a kill.
That is difficult with a sling shot, even an air rifle. I've never shot with anything less than a 22 straight for the centre of their heads.
Rabbits want to be caught it's just that you have to help them. Sure enough.
Under a sapling or some brush if your snare hole is fist sized and a fist high off flat ground in the centre of a rabbit trail you'll snare a rabbit.

Hunting with an obedient dog is good. If you don't bring your dog bring a club.
When rabbits are in distress they can cry like a new born chid. It is very unnerving.

You're hunting for food right?

Scott.

Hi Lodian . Why dont you try back netting the Coney, if they are in high numbers it works great. I always carry a couple of purse nets in my bag. I creep up on to a small bury, place some nets, then go and crash about the cover etc. Some will run for the saftey of their holes, straight into the awaiting nets.

Regards Sparrow.
