I am metting up with the ranger in 2 weeks time to sort out a site etc. So we need to have our to do list for then.

Ok folks update time,

After visiting Glen Tanar last Sat we were able to pick a site and get things underway. I have just had conformation from the Glen Tanar rangers that we have the site booked.

All I need to do now is a bit of paperwork and we are sorted. If you could confirm if your coming asap it would help me a great deal.

Here are some pics of the site, I did this for a trip report for another forum

we reached the car park where we were all meeting up and the skies were blue:

After everybody arrived it was back in the cars so the ranger could show us all the places we have been given permission to use. After a few minutes’ drive, we reach a bend in the river that we can use. Also we are allowed to take brown trout. Our site is behind a ridge on the other side of the river.

On route to camp:

(Note the highland cow lying in among the broom and silver birches)


There are lots of silver birch here and just as much horse hoof fungus:

The campsite and surrounding areas:

There is plenty of room for hammocks a lot of material to use and build things with.


The little stream that will be our water source:

A few minutes’ walk takes us to another part of the small river :

(Broom)

(Foxglove)

(Large horse hoof fungus)

(wood sage)


We decided to go through the camp and pick up the north trail that leads further up the hills

A good mix of pine

Even the peaks aren’t heavily covered with snow at the moment:

(Rushes. These are great for making into mats on a camp loom or for rush lights)

Spot the buzzard.

Tracks:

Plenty of gorse up here as well so we had a munch on the flowers:

After a good walk, we headed back to the campsite:

Plenty of old man’s beard here, Great tinder as its practically dry on the tree

This is the fire place that we will use, as you can see the previous users have left rubbish:

A western hemlock.

In the car looking out at the foothills:

Well it was a great day and looks like the site will be an excellent one with plenty of scope.
