Sometimes, I dont want to carry an axe for making just one fire.
My alternative is a lightweight (generic) japanese saw to cut down everything up to 10-12cm and this big knife to baton the wood in smaller pieces:

Its a carbon blade from Jarvenpaa, measuring 180x35x3,0 and the handle is birch with 5mm brass and 2mm fibre.
The handle is quite slim to fit my small hands, but has a substantial enough bulge in the horizontal plane to give enough volume and make it a safe fit in a still-to-be-made pouch-type sheat.
I made another one with a 8" Brusletto blade and olive wood between brass and fibre but goofed:banghead: , so I stopped midway. Handle and blade are not exactly in line, the pommel is about 3,5mm off. I doubt this can be corrected. Bending 1,5-2,0mm is probably possible, since the blade is quite elastic and not entirely straight anyway, it has a slight wobbel. Filing the rear part of the handle down would result in a "fish tail", so this is out of question.
maybe I will sell it for the material, or put it in a vice and bend it a bit, or start all over, who knows. it will take place sometimes next week :dunno:

Those knives look very useful. I very much like the non-decorative look of the first one in particular.

Commiserations on the booboo on the second knife, but I love the olive wood, it's one of my very favourite woods.

Best regards,
Paul.
