My first decent camera.... SLR

I'm about to hopefully purchase my first real camera... Been wanting to upgrade and get into photography for quite a while.

There's so many nice subjects related to Bushcraft. Was thinking Canon EOS 450 with a couple of lenses, hopefully part of a SH package.

Any advice for a complete novice on the subject? Budgets £200-300 or slightly upwards.
