I've just taken the aluminium frame/brace out of my Berghaus Munro and will try it that way tomorrow;
when I'm using this pack it doesn't usually get stuffed full, and when I cinch the straps up to compress it a bit it seems awkward to get stuff in and out when placed on the deck, and the lid pocket is almost impossible to use for phone etc. because of the weird shape it takes.

Anybody else had this issue with one? Do you use the frame or go without? All thoughts and comments welcome........:-)

I use the frame as I find it makes packing easier and seems to assist to carrying the load. The top pocket was always a bit tight for anything other than a map & compass. I use a small admin pouch for anything else I would normally pack in the top pocket. The Munro is a great pack despite being designed decades ago.

I couldn't get on with mine. I know a lot of people swear by them but it wasn't the pack for me. I tried it with the frame out different ways to pack etc. I also found it uncomfortable. In the end I sold it on. Sometimes what works for some doesn't work for others. Sorry it's not positive but maybe it's time to move on to something else.

I'm begining to think along those lines, I'm sorry to say; the pack is exactly the right size for my edc needs, and I find it ok to carry, but the actual use of the thing, packing, unpacking to get a brew going etc. I find very awkard indeed..............It's a great shame.........

I think I'll put this on the swap shop and see if I can trade for something else. Thanks for the replies :-)

I have had mine for 12 years now and didn't even know the frame came out, cant see why you would want to either.

It's one of those weird things, I can't quite put my finger on the exact reason but I just find it awkward in use; I do tend to stop a lot and take out tools etc., and for some reason I don't seem to be comfortable with it, it's a great shame 'cause it's a fine pack, well made and just the right size.

Well I took the frame out of the pack, loaded it with today's requirements which weighed just over 7kg and in the course of doing what I had planned for the day I walked about ten miles, two brew stops and some small-scale cutting of a few bits of wood I wanted..............

It's a different pack completely, very comfortable and exactly what I thought it'd be like.............Can't explain why but the difference is amazing!
So no swap shop for this little baby! :-)

Glad you managed to get it to work for you mate. It will last you many years.

I tried mine with out a couple of weeks ago, but prefer it with the frame in, found it easier to get in it and more comfy.

I used the pack without the frame for the past while and found it good, but a couple of days ago I put it back in out of interest
and to just make the comparison again and be sure; it's even better now and fits me perfectly!

I can only think that the frame was bent or flattened in transit or storage because I had to bend it considerably to get it out, but once i got it back in it sits perfectly on my back and is very comfortable to get stuff in and out.

Thanks for all the comments and advice :-)
