Just seen a thread that sounds similar but their smaller capacity, tall person sack is 45-55litres. I am looking for a lot smaller capacity at 20 - 25litre instead. For me 45-55 litres is a good wildcamping / backpacking size not a smaller capacity. So I think this thread is different and worthy to keep. The other thread is linked to just below this.

Link to the other lower capacity sack thread that is over double the size I want!!

I am what is widely considered rather tall. I am also someone into hiking who does not carry everything including the kitchen sink. I will walk in places I know well and I know when to call it a day / back off. So I do not need the safety kit to survive a full on Cairngorm winter or to emergency bivvy out because I have made a bad judgement by carrying on. I will be walking with my partner and a 12yo who by the end of the year will be a 13 yo.

So my need is a 20 to 25 litre sack with a long back length so it fits me well. I like the multi use sacks with pockets everywhere. I used to like the OMM sacks due to this and the ability to add on extras to make it more user friendly (pockets on the front straps and even front pouch to even the front/rear load - not that I will get those), however the OMM sacks were always shorter back length. It does give you the idea of sack I like and would prefer. Basically light and practical.

I own an Aiguille Alpine sack bought with a longer back for wildcamping purposes in the past. Great sack and amazing comfort / stability, plus lightweight. However I do not like their day packs, too old school for me. The do a smaller and simple day pack (two straps and small lid but it comes without pockets. The pocket version (signified by the SP after the model name) has side pockets but IMHO do not suit them or look that useful to me. They do however do sacks in S, M and long back lengths for each capacity versions. Longest is for people an inch shorter than me but I guess that would be ok if the sack suited me in anyother way.

So does anyone know a suitable sack. I will say I do not like the green, cammo or stealthy black surplus sacks or similar. I am looking for civvie / outdoor shop style sacks only. So other than that I am open to any tall back sacks you can recommend for me.

I’m also a tall person & my current carry is a Lowe Alpine 25L backpack. It’s not really long enough but when you’re only carrying a couple of good pocketfuls does it really matter that much? If I’m carrying bulk or weight I have a lovely Aarn rucksack to take the strain.

I haven't seen anything. Have you considered approaching the likes of Aiguille Alpine or Atom Packs i.e small uk businesses to see if they will custom make you a pack to your exact criteria and measurements? Ther is also Bolt Packs, a custom maker in the UK. I'm not sure that they have a website but they are on Instagram.

My son is 6'6 and finds the Osprey Talon 33 comfortable, as do i (although they are older models, not sure what they're like now) and they are reasonably lightweight so no penalty if carrying less than capacity.

Probably not what you're looking for but for day hikes with the family, we all use the same 20l Quechua rucksacks from Decathlon. Even fully loaded with water, weather gear and essentials they are comfortable and secure.

Unless you're running/climbing/scrambling the hardest routes, I don't think there's any need to get too technical, just my opinion. If that's what you want to do though, I'd say the custom route is the only way to meet your requirements perfectly.

It might be useful to know what you've previously tried, and the shortcomings of that product, so others might be able to better advise.

Bit left field but Kriega do small rucksacks that have a fold down top for waterproofing and are made for motorcyclists so hang on like a limpet.

Dunno about tall sizing and they're not cheap tat.
