Mora quality?

Recently I had a spot of bother with an online purchase which has left me wondering quite what to expect when buying a Mora knife.

A couple of months ago I bought a Mora Clipper stainless as a gift for my nephew for his forthcoming tour to Afghanistan. I liked it so much I bought myself a Mora Allrounder from the same online retailer. That too was a quality knife but I preferred the weight and balance of the Clipper so I decided to get myself a Clipper Fluorescent stainless.

However when the order arrived the knife was a bit iffy to say the least: the blade as viewed from above was out of alignment with the handle, there was a bend in the blade and the grind was uneven with a very small grind on one side. So back it went to the seller, but the replacement had much the same problem.

When I requested a further replacement I was told by the seller that "Perhaps your requirements of this knife are too exacting, as these are mass-produced, low cost utility knives, and not exhibition pieces".

Suitably fobbed off I sent the knife back and got a refund.

So am I being too picky? My initial purchases suggest not but I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience or thinks that a bent knife with an uneven grind is acceptable?

No i dont think you are being picky, yes they are mass produced, yes they are resonably priced but i dont think this should impact on the quality of the product, it is a knife which is to be used for some quite demanding tasks, it doesent have a "not to be used for anything other than cutting meat" sticker so you would assume it is good to use for carving,chopping,skinning what ever you would use a knife for, so to just fob you off with a throw away comment like that is a bit wrong and not indicative of a person who cares about return business, in my opinion,

Maybe I am pickie as well but I will never buy sharps without seeing it first. I have been known to look though several dozen tools before I buy. Good luck in your search.

Shop elsewhere if you dont like the service I guess.

I notice inconsistencies in the grind on many Frosts knives - edge off centre, bevel deeper one side than the other. That can be easily rectified at home though it barely effects performance & I expect it in such cheap blades. Bent or misaligned blades are more of a problem though I have yet to see this myself - I guess you made the right decision.

If I can choose them myself then I go through the whole box & pick the best. If I'm buying a whole box then it's fingers crossed.
