I like to find mating mayflies in early June, their dance in fading sunlight is a constant reminder of the wonders of the natural world. Something of a pilgrimage, and most years I succeed. Indeed, their existence is a window onto the soul of a healthy aquatic habitat and as such they suggest to me that nature is the true religion. I find this inspirational.

I had another yesterday at around 6.30am. I startled a family of roe dear on my way to work (cycling along a bridlepath). They bolted into the field to the side where they caught the low morning sun which hadn't yet burned off a thick mist.

They ran off through the field but stayed parallel to my trail. I was just about able to keep up with them for about quarter of a mile before my lungs gave out. Awesome.
