Do you have a particular species of fish in mind?
And thus, a particular assortment of kit?
I am hoping it will be big enough to put a bit of sea and land fishing bits in the spool will be bored out to and will give me another 2 inches on top of what I have think the braid line will be good for both sea and river fish

Fishing from shore means smallish fish, Perch, Rudd and so on, so a 6 kg line should be fine.
But I would use a thicker one, by principle.

in a survival situation you can not afford to lose a fish due to a weak line.

I think the 12lb braid would be good for the odd dogfish or mackerel

Yes and no. Yes for fish, no for kelp.

But those species' are not easy to catch from shore. Small codlings and such you might get though, depending where you fish.

I used to shore fish on the South Coast. Used a beach caster. Small fish only.

Braid is an invention sent from heaven. Stronger line in the same volume.

Measured, fish can pull about 10% of their body weight in calm water. 5kg/12lb line test is lots.
Almost all fish sit on the high mortality/low survivorship curve. These species show 50% mortality in less than 15% of the liefespan.
That's just an arbitrary but convenient definition which groups most of them together.

Eat the small ones before something else kills them.
Also, the implication is that really big fish are really special.
Let them survive to reproduce more of that superior kind.

I envy you all. We have practically no lakes. The rivers go really high and wild with the spring mountain snow pack melt after the ice goes out.
Maybe August/September when they drop and clear. Then freak blizzards in October, freeze up again in November.

It is lots, unless you hook seaweed or a stone.
When I fish I use a knot that is fairly weak, if I catch bottom I will only loose the pirk and save the expensive line.

With regular sport fishing gear, the line is about the cheapest thing you own. I've got maybe 300 yds of 25lb on my Amb7000
and regularly cut off the lead 3-5 m, depending on how dirty the water is.

The real deal with this beautiful kit is to be prepared to change lines for conditions.

Keen-Edge: Can you scrape up enough stock to make an all plastic tube which floats?

For a survival set I would want a line that will land a whale. Woud not eant to lose line, as it could be the last means to get decent food.

Yes, but still expensive if you change it once a year.
Cost about $600 for the rod and reel. Last me sbout 10 years per set.
Braid is about $60 to $80 per reel.

I have to get the line here as they do not stock the thickness I like locally in Norway, and it is horrendously expensive here.
