Hi
I have a question concerning this restriction on open fires - raised & contained etc.
Are there designated raised pits for use?
If not what are the recommendations - I've got an old battered galvanised B&Q incinerator, which i have previously cut down, however its messy and cumbersome. Do any of you bushcraft geniuses have any niffty suggestions?
I'm wondering whether to get hold of an old fire bucket, in which i could drill out some vent holes and then perhaps grind out a door to pass in the fuel. i could mount it on some bricks maybe to protect the ground?

The site have raised fire pits dotted around and a few half barrel altar fire set up to move around on a first come first served basis.

The reason for off ground fires is the peat soil...

Right im begining to get nervy. How accessible is the site, by normal car, including getting around the site close to any given pitch in order to drop off kit? This will profoundly affect the amount of stuff that i will bring with me.

As things stand, i seem to be bringing the whole house with me, which im sure cant be right! Ive got to leave something for the misses to live in. So im currently ruthlessly shortening the kit list.

My main concern is transportation of fire wood and project (carving) wood - I have a substatial amount, but if the carpark is remote from the pitch, i may have to have a rethink, or lower my fire and/or whittling expectations!

Google map suggests several tracks running through the site....but can a normal ford cope with them? or indeed, is it accepatble to drive on them? Does everything have to be handballed from the carpark?

If so, a folding wheelbarrow is a very useful thing. Its what I use in such circumstances.

Cars are not allowed on the main site...but there are several large trollies which can be used to move gear from he car park to your pitch.

As for fire wood, many hands make light(er) work of carrying it up from the wood pile to the camp fire circle...honest!

I'm hoping to get there for around 1300 on the Friday, do we know yet whether we have access to the full site yet? I know last time we had most of the northern half to work with. We have the Northern half of the site again...if you look at the map on the camp site website, we have everything above Ingles Way.

As always, the campfire area is booked for us as a communal / meeting area.

I will be pitching up on Pinetree Site...easily recognised as I'll be wearing green wearing a knife on my right hip
