Merino Wool vs. Regular Wool for Mid or Outer layer

Can only find it already mixed with merino and spun ... shall keep looking, if all else fails will treat myself to a pair of soks-worth ready spun. Like the idea of hollow hairs - glad they don't try to use polar bear fur :yikes:

I have bought in Mongolia some mongolian camel wool, socks and mid layer. For me feel more warmer than Merino.

As Elen says different wools for different jobs. Wool count ie the micron diametre of the staple (or Bradford Count is you want very old school) and the crimp determin what the wool is used for.

With merino only part of the fleece produces the fin and ultra fine staples and then that isn't all merino flocks. You need specific environments to produce top quality fine wools. Merino wool can be as course as any fleece dependig on which bit of the fleece and the environment the sheep are in.
