I was working on some special axes last week ;) and found a head sitting on my bench unloved and unfinished. It was then that I realised that my normal everyday hatchet (the one that lives in my show box for example) is an example of how I used to make axes, and therefore is not as good as the ones I'm making now. So I decided that it's about time I made myself a new chopper!

I couldn't spend too much time making something for myself as I'm not getting paid for it, so this one is a bit rough and ready but it works for me. Its going to be my EDC (everyday chopper) and at some stage I'll make myself a posh one to show off what i can really do when I put my mind to it, but that will have to wait.

until then...

head weighs about 420g, 3" cutting edge, 6" long head and 18 1/2" handle. The handle is ash that has been blowtoched to blacken it, the head is EN43 (started as 1" square bar)and about 59 RC. I'm in the process of making a little mask for it too.

Hope you like. I'll bring it with me to the Moot and anybody is welcome to have a play with it if they like (Drew, you will have to be supervised mate :yikes: ;) )

Mine is by far my fav axe Dave, that longer handle realy helps!
Looks like you have gone a tad longer on yours Dave!?
Mine is also comming to the moot if folks would like a look.
Cheers.
Chris.

Very cool :)

I wonder if by blackening the handle you are also hardening it? Works for bows, also looks cool and doesnt look as dirty so quick :)
