hello there i have a very old machete and its full of rust how can i get rid of it? also there is a few chips in the blade how can i get rid of them? and last but not least how do i shapren it?

Clean it up with WD40 and steel wool or wet'n'dry. Use wet'n'dry with either mouse mat or backing board (depending on blade profile) to fettle it up, starting with coarser grades and working through to finer. Have a look for some of British Red or Old Jimbo's threads on axe sharpening for a fuller and better explanation on sharpening techniques... :)

if the edge is really battered, clamp it flat onto to a workmate or something with the machete edge just hanging out over the side of the benchtop, and then sort of draw file it with the biggest b'stard file you can find. once you've got it down to a nearly useable shape, go on to all of the above post.

if the edge is seriously rolled or bent, you may be able to hammer it back into shape before filing.
