I heard these were amazing boots, just want to confirm with people before spending £140!!!!!!!!!!!! Also i have wide feet and i'm usaully a size nine, should i maybe purchase half a size up (9.5)???

Also whats he cheapest price you've fetched for this pair of boots

I think if you put 'Lowa boot' into the Search, next to New Posts above you will get quite a lot of info on these boots.:)

Dont spend £140 on them when you can get them from here

http://a1armysurplus.com/product_info.php?cPath=28&products_id=214

for £50. That is if you are not bothered about having a brand name on the side. I have been told that these are made under license for the german army. I am on my second pair as the first pair lasted about a day at the middlewood meet before one of the lace eyes broke. I sent them back to the shop and they was replaced no quibbles. The second pair are still going strong with no concerns at all.
I dont think i would get another pair but for £50 you cannot argue with them, if they fit your feet. I cannot really pinpoint why i dont like them that much as there is nothing really wrong with them. It is probably an effect of the first pair breaking (which could happen to the best boots in the world) but they just dont fill me with confidence. So I am now saving up for a pair of altbergs and they will still cost less than the full price lowa's

No connection with the seller other than being a happy customer and they have great aftersales service when things go wrong with kit.

Lowa boots are fantastic and take hardly any wearing in. You should not need the extra half size. I have quite wide feet and chunky ankles and have not found theme too tight across the ankles.

The onle negative thing that I have found is that it is a bit tricky to pull the laces tight across the D rings. This may have been the problem when woodsmoke tried them. If you cant pull them tight across the foot then it does not leave much lace for the upper ankle.

Expensive but good!

the problem is i dont think there's a shop that sells them around my area in london. If any londoners here have found lowas place pm me or tell me on this thread!!!!!!!! TY

beware the ones made 'Under license' if you asked lowa they would say they don't make boots for anyone else, so why would they license someone else?

your call, but caveat emptor i think the term is, buyer beware!

check out Le chameau boots, vibram soles, light, strong made for the outdoors and the same price as lowa's.follow the link, i have seen them cheaper on the net in other places, you would be able to get these at a good outdoor shop that stocks hunting gear.

The way it was explained to me when i buying was that the german army comissoned lowa to design a pair of boots then they purchased the resulting design. These are then made under license from the army by several companies such as lowa, mendel etc and only a certain amount of these may be branded.
Now i dont know if this is true but I saw similar info when I was looking around on the web before i got these. They appear to be the same as the ones that i tried on at new cross army store in Manchester, build quality, shape, fit.
At £50 they are ok but it might be in the long run that the difference will show. So its a fair comment

only my opinion, but, if you see them side by side and feel the difference you may or may not change your mind.

but for £50 you have to say three pairs to one is not a bad idea!

i was lucky enough to get a pair of Meindl Burmas for crimbo. think they go for around £140. They are superb!! i would HIGHLY recomend them if you are looking to spend that much.:)

To be honest for this kind of money you could get a british handmade pair from altberg and still have a large amount of change in your pocket. Have a look around the site. I will be getting for my next pair of boots

http://www.altberg.co.uk/Web/military.jsp

I will be going there for my next pair of boots as i have heard nothing but good about them.

To be honest, i've had a couple of Lowa's and, well, i found them a little 'clumpy' and unwieldy. Maybe it's just me, it sure looks that way. I used a couple of pair's for about 18 months and that was more or less daily use. The sole's were quite rigid, as if they were designed as a rigid boot for mountain climbing. This is probably very hand in the mountains when using crampon's, but clumpy and a little bit 'Herman Munster' for a weekend in the wood's, or even spending time in the bondu or on ranges. I'd hate to use them for FIBUA!

And just to clarify, i've used the Mountain Boot, Combat Boot and Patrol Boot. If i had to have any of them, i'd have the Patrol Boot and not because it is the cheapest! Treated with Nikwax Aqueous Wax, they were as waterproof as the others, they were lighter than the others, and when they got soaked through (as the others would) they dried out a lot quicker. My feet seemed to like the Patrol as well. Comfier, better breathability and they did not smell (why do feet smell and noses run?). If you really feel the need for Gore-tex and Have to have Lowa's, i'd get Patrol's and a pair of Gore-Tex sock's!:D

My two Pen'eth and experience.:)

ok well alot of mix reviews on the lowa, how about scarpa sl? they are a bit more expensive but at least london stores stock them so i could try them on, where as lowa and Altberg are a rarity in london

Maybe I can clear things up a little bit?
The mountain boots of the german army are not made by Lowa. It's Haix that got the boot contract of the german army. They both design and manufacture the current combat boot and the current mountain boot. There exists some copies of this design, that are readily avalible, but it's neither Lowa nor Haix.
