BUT it must have a internal diameter of 6.5 inches so I can slip a thermette inside. Capacity anything from 2 to three quarts/litres.

Any leads most gratefully received.

The zebra 16cm is big enough.I use one as it fits inside a plce pocket with room to spare, also itdoubles as a food container and comes with a dinner bowl.It seems big but it is very versatile.I modified mine by removing the bail and replacing it with a bicycle brake cable. This makes it easier to store and pot holders are easier to make for a cble to fit rather than a bail half an inch wide.

Not sure if the Morrisons large SS container would be big enough or not, might be worth a look if you're passing though.

People used to use little milk urns to collect their milk, and in some countries they still do, because I got one from a shop run by morrocans - SS, 1.5l, 11cm at the base, 10cm at the neck, 20cm tall - very solid. There were also larger sizes. Very good lid with a deep rim to stop spilling. Strong bail on the body and a fold-down "D" thingy on the lid.

Cheers folks!
I think I will hunt down a 16 cm Zebra. Sad to say I hummed and ah'ed and got the 14 cm one back when they were quite cheap. I've heard they can be dificult to find in the Uk at the moment, is that right?

A milk urn is a fine thing - is it not?

..and guess who's got a new camera and is going to drive everyone mad while he's trying it out...

got a 16 cm billy coming from Oz. After postage it won't cost any less than the UK ones but my mate jumped the gun and bought me one as it was the last left in the shop.

Still its something to look forward to!

I actually think they are very nice and was about to buy one, but for the cost of one (stainless steel) I could have bought 3-4 stainless steel pots (3 litres from Eagle sharp).
In Norway milk urns are way too expensive:( .
