In a recent thread, @Stew asked about the best profiles for a maul


We do a lot of splitting, manual and powered (60 cubic metres last year) & I thought it might interest some to see what we use

I make no claims that the way we do it is the only way to go, but it's the right system for us


 
Great video. Doubling up the wedges seems like an obvious idea, but I’d never thought of it before…:confused:
I didn't know either until learning to use plastic wedges for felling with a chainsaw. They have a flat side & a gripping side. This is because the two flat sides can be put together and the two gripping sides will bite into the trunk and not back out. It occurred to me that the same logic would work with splitting wedges, and of course it does :)
