I’m going to change the edge of my maul, I think. The minimum plan is to smooth the transition from the bevel to the ‘flats’ to reduce that initial friction when going into a round, allowing it to push through before popping the wood apart. What are the thoughts on edge angle? I’m happy to...

We do a lot of splitting, manual and powered (60 cubic metres last year) & I thought it might interest some to see what we use

I make no claims that the way we do it is the only way to go, but it's the right system for us

I didn't know either until learning to use plastic wedges for felling with a chainsaw. They have a flat side & a gripping side. This is because the two flat sides can be put together and the two gripping sides will bite into the trunk and not back out. It occurred to me that the same logic would work with splitting wedges, and of course it does
