loch ken putin advice

hi, i,m looking for somewhere on loch ken or any other loch within a reasonable drive from kilmarnock ,that i can drive to and park beside the loch . i will have children with me ,so i,m not looking for a heavy portage with the canoe and everybody,s kit. a nice place i can go and have some chill out time with the kids ,without me having a heart attack getting everything and everybody to the waters edge .

There's two or three good bits on the opposite side of the main road.

Turn off same into New Galloway,follow road through village and you'll be driving right by the waters edge shortly.
There's a good parking bit with an interpretation sign that'll give you plenty room.

At weekends though there's often coarse fishing going on,so a weekday trip would be better probably.

If you go further on,you can turn into the Raiders road forest drive.

About 1/2 mile in is L Stroan (think that's the name).
Again large car park at edge of water.

Should be an easy put in but mind i'm not a jolly jack tar!

I launched from the carpark about 50m north of the Loch Ken Holiday Park, right beside the viaduct on the eastern shore. Depending on where you get a space, it's about 30 - 80m away from the slipway under one of the arches.
