Bushcrafter (boy, I've got a lot to say!)
Can anyone help me ... I want a lightweight 4-season sleeping bag that doesn't cost the earth. Yup, I gather I'm asking for the moon but can anyone offer any advice?

By lightweight I'd like it less than 1500gm, pref less than 1000gm.

Do I have to go to down?

If so, which down/manufacturer is ecologically sound (ie not pulled off live ducks/geese)?

For £100 there is the Snugpak softie 9hawk.
1500g and stated low of -10.

I would still as where and when your going to use it, also do you sleep warm or cold?
Most bags have a rating but how accurate are they.
I use a snugpak -25 and an issue arctic bag, both are around the same size and weight but find the arctic bag warmer.
I also have a two other bags rated to -10 yet one is warmer than the other for the same weight and size.
Non of mine are down filled, all synthetic.
Its been said before what suits one might/will not suit another.

For a little more you could look at the Alpkit down bags, they get plenty of thumbs up.

I tend to sleep cold and intend to use it for winter hammocking. I need to be able to sqidge it into my sack (the GG Murmur) along with DD XL tarp and DD travel hammock, spare clothes, cook & fire kit and some food !!! Lightness and compressibability needed.

If your hammocking it isnt going to make a lot of difference what you use as you will end up compressing anything under you.

If you want it for hammocking Elen, have you considered a top quilt?

You'll get all the warmth you want for around 800-900g and it will be on budget too. You'll also get goose down, not duck down like you will on more budget down bags like the Alpkits.

I use a down top quilt and down and synthetic sleeping bags in the hammock, but they all get used as a quilt.
